Semester 1

Getting Started:
  • All groups study The Gospel-Centered Life curriculum the first semester.
  • Use these Get-to-know-you questions the first few weeks of meeting. This helps participants join the group by hearing their own voice out loud and sharing facts about their life.
  • Week 1: Simply get to know each other by using the questions above. Provide snacks and drinks for the group. Read Group Guidelines together. Remind participants to purchase the GCL book.
  • Week 2: Use get-to-know-you-questions again and walk through how to use the GCL book together. You are welcome to do Lesson 1.
  • Week 3: Ask 1-2 GTKY questions. Practice doing a weekly Check-in, using one of the options. Do Lesson 1 or 2 in GCL.
  • Weeks 4-5: Continue to do a GTKY question. Continue to do the check-in together. Continue lessons in GCL.
  • Week 6: Start off the group with a "how are we doing"? This is intended to see how group members are feeling about the weekly meetings - check-ins, curriculum, balanced sharing, etc.Based on their responses, make adjustments to the group, as needed.
  • Week 7: Plan a social gathering.**Use this weekly plan as a guide - doesn't have to be exact timing for your group.

Leader Helps:
  • As the leader, you are to be the model and connector. Share with vulnerability and connect participants to each other, not just to you.
  • Remember that group members may be thinking, "Do I belong in this group?" and "What is expected of me in this group?".
  • Welcome everyone and listen well to their responses.
  • Share group expectations often, especially at the beginning of the semester. Be more curious than certain about your new group members. Study them and get to know them.
  • Schedule 2-3 social times during this first semester to build connection.
  • Try your best to schedule one-on-one time with each of your group members throughout the year.

Gospel Centered Life: Nine-week study with discussion questions, articles and exercises to help participants understand how the Gospel shapes all aspects of life.
