The seemingly insignificant events recorded in Acts 18:12-23 give us a beautiful picture of a man walking humbly with his God, or "moving under the Mercy." Among the questions it addresses are: Do we need to give Christianity a PR facelift in order for people to believe? What specific habits remind us of the faithfulness of God? And does God guide Christians specifically in every aspect of life, or at least the important ones?

In Acts 17:16-34, the Apostle Paul brought the Gospel of Jesus to the great intellectual proving ground of his day, the Areopagus (a.k.a. Mars Hill) in Athens, Greece. What drew him there, what he said, and how his hearers responded all provide motivation for us, whether Christians or non-Christians, to move toward the seam of faith and expect God to meet us there -- and surprise us!

"Out of the depths, I cry" - that's how Psalm 130 begins. Sooner or later, each one of us finds ourselves in "the depths." What can we expect from God when we're in the depths? The author of Psalm 130 found three answers to that question: forgiveness, steadfast love, and "plentiful" redemption.

Psalm 126 describes a familiar experience for those who have followed Christ by faith over time: repeated seasons of trial that alternate with rich seasons of blessing. This can confuse the maturest of believers. Does God want to bless you or test you -- or what? Thankfully the Psalm not only describes the experience but also brings a promise that makes sense out of both, giving us an active role in connecting the two redemptively.

In God's wisdom, one of the darkest Psalms in the Bible is written to be sung. While the ancient Israelites literally sang its words as part of temple worship, God now invites us to "sing" our sorrows to him in prayer. In particular, Psalm 88 invites us to sing "in tune" (to God, not against God), to sing "in a minor key" (honestly describing our actual experience), and to sing with Jesus (recognizing how he has borne our sorrows himself).
